A CBI High Holiday Tradition – Help Support the Downtown Food Basket

Every year at this time, for over two decades, our congregation has filled our foyers with donations of canned goods and nonperishable food items for the Central Downtown Food Basket. Pre-COVID, thanks to CBI and other supporters, the Food Basket fed over 1,200 families and nearly 400 seniors a month. During the pandemic, the need has soared. The Food Basket has had to adapt to meet the demand by rethinking how they distribute food in a safe way, including establishing drive-through and walk-up popups in and around the Sacramento area.

Sadly, we can’t fill our foyers during this year when the need is unprecedented. But we can adapt and make a tremendous difference for our neighbors whose lives have been upended by the pandemic. Please bring donations of canned and nonperishable food to the CBI parking lot on Sunday, September 19. Religious School families are welcome to bring donations at drop-off/pick-up. We ask non-Religious School households to bring their donations to CBI from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.

Alternatively, you can donate to the Food Basket online.

In addition to your bags of groceries or financial donation to the Food Basket, please consider making a donation to Congregation B’nai Israel’s Caring Community Fund to support our fellow congregants.
