About Us
About Us
Together we learn and pray, share friendships, celebrate life’s joys, and maintain an active commitment to tikkun olam, the repair of the world.
Welcome to Congregation B'nai Israel — a vibrant community in the heart of Sacramento, California where people of diverse backgrounds pursue their Jewish journeys. We are an egalitarian, inclusive congregation committed to experiencing the joy and beauty of Jewish life.
We are multi-generational and multi-cultural. Whether you are married, single, with or without kids, a member of the LGBTQIA community, a Jew by choice or by birth, in an interfaith family, or disabled, we welcome you. We proudly offer a broad range of programs for all ages, including various worship opportunities. Both our formal and informal study leads to social action in a community committed to improving our lives inside the building and the world outside of our building.
Our synagogue's history is nearly as old as Sacramento itself, founded in 1849 as one of the first few Jewish synagogues west of the Mississippi. Though our location has changed a few times, we found our final home in 1954 on Riverside Boulevard across the street from beautiful Land Park.
We welcome more than 600 families with diverse backgrounds and lifestyles through our doors and help them find their Jewish path through prayer, music, learning and community.
We hope you will take a moment to browse our website to learn more about what matters most to you and how we can help enrich your Jewish life.
