We're looking for a Camp Director, Senior, and Junior Counselors.
Camp Director Position Details
Hours: 8:00-5:00 Monday-Friday
Position Summary: The Camp Director is directly responsible for creating camp educational programming, camper care, and staff supervision. The director oversees the organization and management of the staff, campers, and schedules within a group to deliver a safe, fun and meaningful camp experience. The director will support, mentor and guide staff, identify and meet camper needs, facilitate social development, and maintain communication between departments and with camp families.

Ability to communicate and work with the Camp Shelanu Committee, Director of Lifelong Jewish Learning, and clergy

Ability to manage and coordinate special experiences including field trips and special activities

Computer skills, including Microsoft suite and Google suite

First aid experience
-
Post-secondary schooling of some type
-
At least 5 years experience working with or supervising children

Compliance with all state, local, and federal laws for youth-serving organizations
Responsibilities:
-
Attend Camp Shelanu Committee meetings when needed in the months leading up to camp
-
Develop an outline of activities with the assistance of the committee for all 4 OR 5 weeks of camp before the staff training session (past activities are available to be reused and committee is able to help)

During the week prior to camp, convey plans and expectations to Junior and Senior counselors, and allow them time to develop their own activity block for each week (staff training is 5 hours/day)

Schedule counselors so that before care, after care, and regular camp hours have staff present (Camp Director must be present for all regular camp hours unless other arrangements are approved)

Match volunteer CITs to counselors so that they can be utilized effectively

Send emails/newsletters/advertisements to parents via email

Be present and conversational with parents at drop-off and pick-up

Track registration and camper attendance
-
Infuse Jewish values and knowledge into programming (Shabbat, Hebrew, Israel Education, etc.)

Report to the Director of Lifelong Jewish Learning when needed

Spend one day in the week following the conclusion of camp to pack up and store all materials used and send a closing message to all participating families

Camp Dates for Summer 2025:
Camp Shelanu Preparation Meetings with the Camp Shelanu Committee: attend one in March, April, May, June for total of 6 hours
Allotted Prep Time: up to 30 hours of paid planning and developing time, to be logged and submitted to DLJL
Counselor Training/Prep Week: Tentative June 29-July 3, (10am-2:00pm for counselors, 9am-3pm for Director)
Camp sessions: Camp director arrives at 8am Monday-Friday for four or five weeks of camp in July and August.
