Mitzvah Day is Sunday, January 19!
Volunteerism, activism, and unity!

This annual event is a community outreach effort by coordinated CBI volunteers and staff. Held on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Weekend, it’s the chance to come together and do something meaningful. Mitzvah Day kicks off with a breakfast and kickoff in the Social Hall at 8:45 am. Official kickoff with Rabbi Alfi and Cantor Steinberg is at 9:30 am.

Poster Making for MLK March
The Focus on Racial Justice Committee will again host a poster-making session for the following day’s annual March for the Dream, honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. Last year’s session was a great success! Join us to make posters, whether or not you plan to march. All materials will be provided.

WBI - Purse, Scarf and Jewelry Swap Sale Fundraiser for Planned Parenthood
The Women of B’nai Israel will be hosting a swap sale for Mitzvah Day Jan. 19. Please bring your gently used purses, jewelry, and scarves to CBI (container in office foyer). All items will be sold for $5 each to benefit local Planned Parenthood educational programs.

Kitchen Clean-Up – CBI Brotherhood will be conducting a deep clean in the kitchen.

Mustard Seed School Workday
Cleaning classrooms, raking playground, planting and pruning gardens (Full- all volunteer spots are full)

Gardening at Bret Harte Elementary School
Weeding, some pruning, hauling/moving mulching. They have most tools have most tools, (pruning shears, shovels, takes, wheelbarrows) but if people want to bring their own garden gloves, sheers and/ or pads for kneeling, that would be fine.

B'nai Beautification
Pruning, weeding, planting some new shrubs, and transplanting some existing shrubs---Will not happen if it rains. (2-3 volunteers needed)

Clean up on American River Parkway
Join a dedicated group to do a clean-up of Mile 17 of the American River Parkway.

  • Carpet cleaning in Sanctuary, Admin Building and Library
  • Spread bark around playground
