The Sacrifice of Isaac, by Marc Chagall

"The Supremacy Clause" – a play by Ron Tochterman, directed by Janelle Kauffman, with Loren Taylor as Abraham, and Stephen Kauffman as the Judge – depicts the trial of Abraham for the attempted murder of his son Isaac. The performance is interactive. Following will be a brief overview of how Abrahamic monotheism shaped American due process and the legal rules involved. The audience will then be asked to deliberate and vote on a verdict.

About the Playwright: Ron Tochterman

Ron Tochterman is a longtime (since 1946) member of CBI, and his wife, Linda, is a past president of Women of B’nai Israel. He was a Superior Court judge in Sacramento for 32 years, and for 20 of those years taught law courses, including Constitutional Law, at area law schools. Several of his plays have been performed in Sacramento and other U.S. cities.
