Selichot Slam: Yelling at G-d

Back for its second year, this powerful and popular event returns with a bold new theme: Yelling at G-d. Bring your rage, your joy, your heartbreak, your awe — whatever you’ve been holding inside — and channel it through poetry in this raw, reflective, and healing Selichot Slam.

Selichot are poetic prayers for repentance, traditionally read on the Saturday night before Rosh HaShanah as we prepare our hearts for the High Holy Days. Guided by Lauren Silva, Director of Lifelong Jewish Learning, along with Adult Education Committee co-chairs Jessica Zisser and Marissa Stein, we’ll explore the history and meaning behind Selichot, read through a few poetic examples, and then dive into writing our own. If you feel moved, you’re invited to share your work aloud (sharing is optional, but encouraged!).

This is a non-competitive poetry slam — come as you are, with your full self. Bring your words, your creativity, and your voice.
